Grappling is a great skill to learn as an adult for self-defense and protecting your family. It is not just a great tool for self-defense, however; it’s also incredibly effective for people who want to get in shape. It builds strength, flexibility, and endurance, and even helps with weight loss. Just like any form of martial arts, grappling is a way to practice self-improvement and push toward new goals. No matter how experienced you become at grappling, there is always something new to learn! It’s an incredible workout that includes cardio, core work, upper body strength training, and leg exercises all in one. Over time you’ll find that your overall health has improved because of your practice in class as well!

Grappling Training Program Adults
Our adult grappling program is for any adult in Rowan County and surrounding areas and our classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00AM to 12:00PM and 6:30PM to 8:00PM. The focus of our grappling program will include fundamentals, advanced moves, health benefits, and combat strategy. Participants will need to wear shorts with no pockets, a t-shirt, and wrestling shoes.
Day Class - Tuesday & Thursday from 11:00AM - 12:00PM
Evening Class on Tuesday & Thursday - 6:30PM to 8:00PM
Morning Class - Tuesday & Thursday from 6:00AM - 7:30AM
Why Rowan Wrestling Academy
Rowan Wrestling Academy is an organization committed to developing the middle school and high school wrestling programs in Rowan County. Although we offer wrestling and MMA classes for adults, our primary focus is the youth in our community. We have a close relationship with many of the schools and coaches in the county and are working with them to develop young wrestlers and increase interest in the sport locally.
Additionally, we are the only organization with a recreational league in the region. We have a competitive AAU team and we are members of the USA Wrestling organization, the governing body for the sport of Wrestling in the US. Our instructors have a proven track record of success in the sport including all-state honors and professional experience. No. Although we work closely with Rowan County schools and coaches, Our K-12 league and training programs are available to youth and adults inside or outside of the county.
Yes. Both men and women can absolutely participate in our wrestling and grappling programs.
You will need to wear shorts with no pockets and a t-shirt for all programs. For wrestling training you should also bring your wrestling shoes.
K-5 kids will be in the Beginner Wrestling and Youth Jiu-Jitsu programs. 6-12 grade kids and adults will be in the advanced wrestling and adult Jiu-Jitsu programs. There may be some younger kids that need to be in the advanced programs and some older kids that need to be in the beginner programs. We will make adjustments accordingly to ensure everyone is in the right place.
Participants should wear shorts and t-shirts to practice. Gi’s are not worn during any of our grappling programs.
Grappling is an extremely effective form of self defense because it teaches how to control someone much larger than you. Grappling allows you to use leverage to overcome opponents. Since most fights end up on the ground, being proficient at defending yourself from various positions on the ground is crucial for self-defense.
